I read that the Department for Business Innovations and Skills is sneaking in the suggestion that pregnant woman are not all equal.
Apparently Vince Cable believes that women who own shares in a company are to be treated differently under his new proposals for employee owners. Under this scheme pregnant Women who hold shares in their firm will be required to give 16 weeks’ notice of their return from maternity or adoption leave, instead of the usual 8 weeks.
Even their own equality assessment says “This element will impact on individuals who are pregnant or new mothers.”
Even if this element is removed from the legislation, how can it be justified? Are pregnancy rights now just a benefit?
